What kind of research do you conduct?

Ideally, applicants to my lab will have strong alignment with at least one of these areas:
Family contextual influences on child and adolescent development, especially short-term family process such as daily parenting and family relationships
Evaluation of parenting and family-based interventions, with a focus on mechanisms, moderators, and differences by program modality (e.g., face-to-face and virtual interventions)
Strategies to enhance engagement in family-based intervention programs

Our lab uses a variety of research methods and statistical approaches.
These are some of the prevalent methodologies in our work:
Daily diary and ecological momentary assessment
User experience research
Program effectiveness and hybrid effectiveness/implementation studies
These are some of the statistical analyses we typically conduct:
Hierarchical linear models (multilevel models)
Latent class/profile analysis
Structural equation modeling
Qualitative interviews
What is your mentorship style?

I seek to promote students’ autonomy by capitalizing on their strengths while providing scaffolded opportunities for growth. Students will be encouraged to expand beyond their comfort zones, with lab-wide policies, resources, and hands-on mentorship supporting their success in these endeavors. I take a developmental approach to mentorship in which the level of support is tailored to meet the student’s level of comfort with a given role or task. Students who have been in the lab longer will be expected to support the training of newer lab members. Lab norms will be collectively established, maintained, and refined, with continual input from all members.
Other qualities I look for

As a new faculty member, I am looking for students to work alongside me as team members. Trainees should be ready and enthusiastic to have a voice in developing projects.
The ideal candidate will also have some experience with project management, such as participant recruitment, survey development and deployment, and/or data management.
Finally, our lab ethos is to balance high standards of evidence with intellectual humility and adaptability. Applicants who embody these qualities will be the best fit for the lab.
